Thank you for agreeing to provide your Google location history for the DEBEAT Study.

These instructions are specifically for iOS users (iPhones and other apple devices), as there are additional steps that need to be followed to allow the location history to be recorded. If you have an Android phone, you do not need to complete these steps.

Please follow the instructions below to ensure location history is recorded during the length of the study:

First, Install the ‘Google Maps’ app, if you don’t already have it.

After you have Google Maps installed, you can allow location to be recorded through your Google account. To do this, first, turn on Location Services.

• Do this by opening your iPhone’s “Settings” app, then navigating to “Privacy & Security”. Then, select “Location Services” and turn on “Location Services”.

Next, enable “Background App Refresh”. Then, allow Google Maps to “always” have access to your location.

• Do this by opening your iPhone’s “Settings” app and then navigating to “Google Maps” (near the bottom of the Settings app). Enable “Background App Refresh”, then select “Location”, and then select it to “Always” be allowed location access.

Finally, open the Google Maps app and log in to your Google account if prompted. In the top-right corner, select your profile.

Select “Timeline” or “Your Timeline”.

In the top-right corner, select the three dots (“…”), and select “About Timeline”

A little menu will pop-up from the bottom. Under the “Your Choices” section, select “Go to settings”.

Another page will pop-up called “Activity Controls”. Make sure that Location history is turned “On” and then click the down-arrow next to “Devices on this account”. Tick the tick-box next to the option that says “… (this device)” at the end of it.

Performing these steps will enable this iOS device’s location history to be recorded over the next 28 days, until we ask for you to submit it.

To disable these steps, return to each step and undo the action we performed.
