Rationale
Few studies have investigated diet changes across this period and how this transition affects diet or lifestyle behaviours. The DEBEAT study investigates changes in diet from the last year of secondary school or college to the following year, finding how these changes vary between different socioeconomic groups, those following different early adulthood pathways, and the determinants of dietary change in different settings and populations.
Aims of the study
Primary Objective
To test the first wave of data collection methods intended for the main DEBEAT study.
Secondary Objective
To gather feedback from participants concerning participation in the study.
Design
This was an observational pilot study taking place in sixth-form schools/colleges and further education colleges in January 2023, aiming for around 100 participants. All students in school year 13 had been invited to participate in the pilot study. Students were asked to complete a series of web-based questionnaires across 14 days. Reminders were sent to participants who haven’t completed any individual questionnaire for up to one month after the data collection period.
Primary Outcome
Percentage uptake per school setting.
Secondary Outcome
The usability of the email/text invitations for questionnaires and Intake24 invitations.
The completion level of Intake24 and questionnaires, and perceived burden.
The appropriateness of the wording for questions and response options.
