The IT team is led by Rich Hutchinson and provides business and scientific IT infrastructure, the key components of which are networking, storage, compute, back-up and security. The business system service relates to day-to-day computing including desktop computers, printing, scanning and provision of the telecoms system. The scientific computing includes providing IT infrastructure to support the secure collection of personal identifiable information, storage and the analysis of large amounts of scientific data.
The team has a user base of more than 150; this includes staff, students, visiting workers and affiliated staff. These are spread over multiple sites with primary locations at Cambridge, Ely and Wisbech.
The Unit IT policies are based on MRC standards and guidance. We have a System Level Security Policy (SLSP) to protect against governance risks and address the security and confidentiality needs of the Information Systems.
