Current work and interests
Yaling was a visiting researcher at the MRC Epidemiology Unit and a visiting fellow of Wolfson College in 2019/2020. She is an associate professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University (China). Her research interest is in prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, particularly in cardio-metabolic disorders, such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. Her research in the Unit, supervised by Professor Nick Wareham, was on the aetiology of cardio-metabolic disorders and methodology of genetic and complex longitudinal data.
Background and experience
Yaling trained in Preventive Medicine and received her Bachelor’s degree at Xi’an Medical University (now Xi’an Jiaotong University Health Science Center), and got her Master’s degree (in Social Medicine and Health Service Management) and PhD degree (in Epidemiology and Biostatistics) from the Peking University (China). After graduated from the Peking University, she went back to Xi’an Jiaotong University Health Science Center to work as a lecturer in Biostatistics and a researcher focusing on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases. Since 2017, she has taken part in the establishment of the China Northwest Cohort.
