Current work and interests
Shayan Aryannezhad is a PhD student at the MRC Epidemiology Unit under the supervision of Professor Nita Forouhi. His research will examine combinations of health behaviours and weight over time and their link with the development of health endpoints such as incidence of type 2 diabetes
Background and experience
Prior to joining the Unit, Shayan completed a Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme at the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBMU) in which he gained clinical experience and worked as a medical intern and later on, became a physician with a license to practice in Iran. While studying medicine, he also worked as a research assistant at the Research Institute for Endocrine Sciences and worked on epidemiological studies based on prospective cohorts such as Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study (TLGS). Shayan’s research was mainly focused on obesity and measures to prevent and resolve its associated co-morbidities. He published several papers in this field and also had the chance to gain experience as a lead author. During this time, he developed an interest in public health which motivated him to pursue a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, also at the SBMU
