Current work and interests
Rich joined the Unit in March 2015 and leads on the IT framework and services across all four sites. As well as overseeing the IT team and the in-house hardware and computing services, Rich is responsible for external coordination with all external IT service providers from within the University and beyond including high-performance computing and core networking.
Background and experience
Rich graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2000 with a BSc. (Hons) in Anatomy and Cell Biology, and went on to work in a variety of IT roles before joining UCL in 2004. Rich spent eleven years at UCL, first at the Adastral Park Campus, then later at the Institute of Child Health where he managed specialised IT services with a close focus on security designed to facilitate epidemiological research using patient-identifiable data. During this time he also built the IT service and information security management system of one of the country’s few university-based ISO 27001-certified research computing services.
