Current work and interests
Rebecca is a Visiting Scientist at the Unit.
Background and experience
Prior to her role as Programme Manager (maternity leave cover) for the Scalable behavioural weight management programmes for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes, Rebecca was a PhD student supervised by Dr Amy Ahern. Rebecca’s PhD examined the bi-directional relationship between weight management and mental wellbeing in adults with overweight and obesity attempting to control their weight.
Rebecca obtained her undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Sheffield Hallam University in 2014. She later pursued a Masters in Public Health from Queen’s University Belfast, achieving a Distinction with Carnwath Medal and Prize in 2017. Rebecca’s Master’s thesis examined the effectiveness of active travel interventions on physical activity and fitness in primary school children.
Working in weight management services for many years, Rebecca supported many clients with overweight and obesity to make weight-related behaviour changes. During this time, Rebecca developed a strong interest in the relationship between mental wellbeing and weight management.
