Work and interests
Laura Wittemans is a PhD student on the Wellcome Trust 4-year Programme in Metabolic and Cardiovascular Diseases. In April 2015 Laura started working as part of the Aetiology of Diabetes and Related Metabolic Disorders programme, supervised by Dr Claudia Langenberg and Dr Robert Scott. Her PhD project focuses on characterizing the role of the metabolome in type 2 diabetes and related conditions.
Background and experience
Laura studied Bioengineering at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and obtained her Bachelor of Science with great distinction in 2012. In 2014, Laura received her Master of Science in Bioengineering (specialties biomolecular engineering and nutritional health) with great distinction from the University of Leuven, Belgium. This two-year Master programme included a one-year research project in which she investigated the metabolic regulation of angiogenesis.
