Behavioural Epidemiology and Interventions in Young People
Current work and interests
Karen is a Research Associate working on an ESRC-funded project for developing a risk-reframing intervention to increase parental tolerance for risky play in primary school children in the UK. She is particularly interested in the interplay between physical and mental health of young people.
Background and experience
Karen completed her undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences and master’s degree in Psychology and Education at the University of Cambridge. Her PhD at The Chinese University of Hong Kong was fully funded by the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship (HKPFS).
In her PhD, she focused on developing and evaluating an app-based intervention for mindfulness training and knowledge and skills transfer for parents of children with autism spectrum disorders to improve parental wellbeing. Karen’s research interests have mostly focused on child and adolescent mental health, ranging from psychiatric epidemiology to digital interventions. She has experience in intervention development and evaluation, systematic reviews, and mixed methods research.
