Visiting Clinical Fellow
Aetiology and Mechanisms of Diabetes and Related Metabolic Disorders of Later Life, Metabolic Research Laboratories, and Department of Paediatrics
Left the Unit in 2021
Work and interests
Jake is a clinical paediatrics registrar and his research interest is in liver fat (hepatic steatosis). He is particularly interested in genetic influences that lead to development of steatosis and the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) spectrum.
He worked between the MRC Epidemiology Unit, Metabolic Research Laboratories, and the Department of Paediatrics, and left the Unit in January 2021.
His research in the Unit, supervised by Dr Claudia Langenberg and Professor Nick Wareham, had two main aspects:
- Assess the relationships between body fat distribution, insulin resistance, and liver fat, and how this is influenced by common genetic variants
- Searching for blood tests (‘serum biomarkers’) that might be useful for predicting who may progress to more advanced liver disease
