Work and interests
Inês Barroso was Director of Research, Mechanisms of Metabolic Disease at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, Cambridge University, UK. Her research focuses on the genetic aetiology and mechanisms of type 2 diabetes, obesity, rare forms of these conditions (e.g. childhood onset obesity and syndromes of insulin action), and related rare quantitative traits. Inês left the Unit in December 2019.
Background and experience
Inês has led the MAGIC (Meta-Analysis of Glucose and Insulin-related traits Consortium) consortium, MAGIC, since 2009, and her group has also worked on a limited number of mouse models to validate genes discovered from human disease studies.
