Work and interests
Erlend T. Aasheim was an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Public Health Medicine. In this post he had undertaken specialty training in public health medicine alongside a research attachment with the Aetiology of Diabetes and Related Metabolic Disorders programme at the MRC Epidemiology Unit. His research focus was in environmental public health.
Background and experience
Erlend obtained his medical degree and BSc at University of Bergen and next completed a PhD on obesity surgery at University of Oslo. He moved to the UK to work as a clinician and researcher in obesity at Imperial College London before studying for an MPhil in Public Health at University of Cambridge, passing with distinction. In specialty training he was awarded the Faculty of Public Health Michael O’Brien Prize for outstanding performance in the Part A Membership Examination. He has written more than 40 peer-reviewed publications.
