A key objective of our department is to foster dialogues with policymakers, practitioners and the public, and to achieve this we regularly publicise our new research findings and discuss their implications through a variety of media channels.
Our researchers also frequently provide expert comment to journalists on research findings made by other researchers, as well as on changes to policy and practice.
Recent examples include:
- Dr Christina Xiao was interviewed by the BBC about new research on the impact of the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) on travel to school of children in Central London.
- Dr Shayan Aryannezhad and two EPIC-Norfolk study volunteers were interviewed by ITV Anglia about new findings on the impact of changes in diet and physical activity on the risk of developing heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
- Dr Julia Mueller was quoted in an article in The Independent on the relationship of within-individual and between-individual variations in mental health with bodyweight.
- Biorepository team members Natalia Piaszczyk and Lydia Moore featured in a BBC Look East report on the development of a new blood test to detect a form of Alzheimer’s disease long before symptoms appear.
- Dr Julia Carrasco Zanini Sanchez was quoted in a Daily Mail article about research demonstrating that signatures from thousands of proteins measured from a drop of blood can predict the onset of many diverse diseases.
- Professor Ken Ong was quoted in a Medscape article where he provided expert comment on a new paper examining healthcare savings associated with breastfeeding.
- Dr Jody Hoenink was quoted in a Guardian article about an analysis of high street fast food outlets she undertook for a new report by the youth activist charity Bite Back
- Dr Yanaina Chavez-Ugalde was interviewed about her research on ultra-processed foods for the BBC 2 documentary ‘Irresistible: Why We Can’t Stop Eating’.
