About Fenland
The Fenland Study investigates the interaction between environmental and genetic factors in determining obesity, type 2 diabetes, and related metabolic disorders. These conditions are a considerable public health concern, but their causes and factors that predict who will be affected by them are not completely understood.
What makes the Fenland Study unique is the level of detail it collects about the health and lifestyle of participants, and the objective measurement techniques used in the screening. Phase 1 of the Fenland study was completed in 2015, and Phase 2 in 2020.
Fenland 3 now underway
We are now inviting participants who attended an initial Fenland Study visit between 2005 and 2015, and who agreed to be re-approached for future research, to return for a third visit. For Fenland 3 we are going digital with a bespoke Fenland Study app that participants with compatible devices can use to complete questionnaires and some measurements at their own convenience. Fenland COVID-19
In July 2020 the Fenland COVID-19 Study began recruiting from Fenland Study participants. Data collection for the Fenland COVID-19 study was completed in April 2021.
UK LLC
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the UK government has initiated six National Core Studies to conduct research into COVID-19. The Fenland Study has been invited to take part in one of these studies — the UK Longitudinal Linkage Collaboration (UK LLC). The UK LLC is bringing together information from longitudinal study volunteers with their routine records in a secure way. Over 20 longitudinal studies are taking part in this collaboration.
