Current work and interests
Emily joined the MRC Epidemiology Unit in January 2018 as a Research Study Assistant on the GoActive Evaluation Study. Her main role included taking the final anthropometric measurements for the project in sixteen different schools located around Cambridgeshire and Essex. Emily left the Unit in July 2018.
Background and experience
Emily completed her BSc in Biochemistry from Cardiff University in 2016. During her placement year she undertook work experience with the IGFs and Metabolic Endocrinology Group at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. Here, she investigated aberrant cholesterol metabolism in aggressive breast cancer types, predominantly working in the laboratory.
This experience furthered her interest in nutrition, metabolism and diet-disease relationships which lead her to study for an MSc in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Nottingham. Emily graduated in December 2017 and her master’s project addressed “iodine deficiency as a public health issue: the fortification of non-dairy milk alternatives.”
Emily has a broad range of interests including nutrient-gene interactions, nutritional epidemiology, public health and metabolic disorders.
