Work and interests
Emilie was a Research Associate within the Dietary Public Health Research programme at the Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR), and left the Unit in Autumn 2015.
She is a food and health lawyer interested in the impact of macro-level policies on diet, obesity, and health. Her current research focuses primarily on agricultural law, EU Common Agricultural Policy, and sugar policy and their contributions to the creation of an obesogenic, unsustainable food system. She also researches the intersections of international trade law and corporate law with food systems and population health outcomes. Emilie is interested in mapping complex legal obligations at the domestic, EU, and international level and in devising effective, evidence-based, and equitable policy mechanisms that are also legally compliant.
Background and experience
Emilie is a qualified US lawyer admitted to practice in California. She holds a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, a Masters in Law from the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor’s degree in sociology (summa cum laude) from Princeton University. She was previously a Fulbright Schuman Scholar and a Harvard Knox Fellow in CEDAR. Emilie has worked in health and education in the Dominican Republic and Ghana, in privacy law at Microsoft, and in corporate law at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen, and Katz in New York. She is also a 500-hour certified yoga instructor and Cambridge University lacrosse and football blue.
