PhD Student
Nutritional Epidemiology
Current work and interests
Jia Yi is a PhD student supervised by Professor Nita Forouhi and funded by the Gates Cambridge Scholarship. Her PhD research investigates the associations of dietary and nutritional factors with cardiometabolic risk in UK and Asian populations.
Background and experience
Jia Yi obtained her bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from King’s College London, where she examined the association between ultra-processed food consumption and obesity in the ZOE PREDICT 1 study for her thesis. This project sparked her interest in nutritional epidemiology, which led her to pursue the MPhil in Population Health Sciences at the University of Cambridge, specialising in Epidemiology. Her MPhil thesis examined the association between sugar-sweetened beverage consumption and height loss in adults in the EPIC-Norfolk study.
Prior to commencing her PhD studies, Jia Yi completed a one-year Trainee Fellowship at the Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford, where she contributed to the Cancer Risk in Vegetarian Consortium, a collaboration of prospective cohort studies that aims to investigate the relationship between vegetarian diets and the risk of cancer.
