After the success of the last Anthropometry Webinar, the MRC Epidemiology Unit is excited to announce that the event “Anthropometry Webinar: Obesity Phenotypes from BMI to MRI throughout the life course” will be running again from 8 February 2022.

In addition to the content from the last Anthropometry Webinar, we have new talks on wearable technologies and smartphone cameras to assess body geometry, and how to assess sarcopenia in the presence of obesity and ageing.

Webinar objectives

By participating in this webinar you can achieve:

1. An understanding of the contributions of anthropometric and body composition measures to metabolic health outcomes.
2. Detailed knowledge of the different measurement tools available to assess obesity phenotypes in different age groups, including an understanding of their key features, strengths and limitations.
3. The ability to interpret body composition and growth data acquired and/or processed by the different methods covered in the course (see course content)
4. Understanding of the decision-making process to select the most appropriate measurement tool to use in a specific study/setting.
5. An overview on how to harmonise body composition data acquired from different studies that have used different measurement tool
6. A certificate on the assessment of obesity phenotypes through the life course from the MRC Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge

We are charging a registration fee to cover part of the cost of the Anthropometry Webinar. The registration fee varies from:

• University staff/NHS and non-profit organisations £60
• Industry £90
• Students and trainees £45
• Low-to-Middle Income Country (LMIC) £30

Talks, materials and demonstrations will be available on Moodle from 8 February, and the live Question and Answer sessions will take place on 15 and 16 March (see course content).

Student fee waiver applications

There are a limited number of student fee waivers available for the webinar.

If you are a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD student, please provide a written statement from your supervisor or a faculty member of your degree program confirming that you do not have financial support, as well as 200 words on how this course would help your studies and/or research.
