PhD Student
Aetiology and Mechanisms of Diabetes and Related Metabolic Disorders of Later Life
Current work and interests
In 2023 Alice completed a Wellcome Trust 4-year PhD Programme in Metabolic and Cardiovascular Disease, jointly supervised by Dr Claudia Langenberg and Professor Sir Stephen O’Rahilly, and working between the MRC Epidemiology Unit and IMS Metabolic Research Laboratories. The title of her PhD thesis is ‘Genetic and molecular characterisation of metabolic subphenotypes and their contribution to type 2 diabetes aetiology’.
Background and experience
Alice is broadly interested in the genetic characterisation of human metabolic disease, and the further annotation of disease-associated variants to prioritise variants for functional follow up.
Alice was awarded an MSc in Human Molecular Genetics at Imperial College London where she completed a 6-month research project focusing on examining the genetic architecture of a non-coding type 2 diabetes susceptibility locus, and the interrogation of candidate functional variants. Prior to this she completed BSc (Hons) Genetics at the University of Manchester.
