Work and interests

Catharine joined the unit in January 2019 as a Dietary Research Assistant with the NIHR Cambridge BRC Measurement Platform and worked as part of the coding team working on the UK National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS). The role involved collating and processing data, using the Microsoft Access based system called Diets in Nutrients Out (DINO). Catharine left the Unit in December 2019.

Background and experience

In 2017 Catharine graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Nutrition and Psychology, which provided her with a thorough grounding in the nutritional, physiological and psychological aspects of diet and lifestyle. It allowed her to acquire and develop research skills such as collating, inputting and analysing large volumes of quantitative data in Microsoft Excel and SPSS.  Her experiences throughout the degree led her to develop a keen interest in health promotion, in particular, the cause and management of diabetes.

Prior to joining the team Catharine spent time volunteering abroad in Samoa, carrying out health assessments on the general public and teaching nutrition in schools.
