Work and interests
Ulf Ekelund was Senior Investigator Scientist in the Physical Activity Programme, who left the Unit in March 2017, and is Professor in Physical Activity and Health at the Department of Sport Medicine, Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, Oslo, Norway.
His main research interests are related to measurement and population levels of physical activity; the role of physical activity and sedentary behaviour for preventing non-communicable diseases especially obesity and metabolic diseases; and to understand the biological basis for physical activity and sedentary behaviour with a special focus on young people.
Background and experience
He obtained his PhD from the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm Sweden in 2002 and joined the MRC Epidemiology Unit in January 2003. Ulf Ekelund has published more than 200 peer-review original scientific publications including articles in The Lancet, JAMA, PLOS Medicine and Nature Genetics. His current H-index is 51 (Web of Science).
